Student Council - Pajama Day

Friday, 4/24/15 is Pajama Day!! Wear your cozy PJ's!!


Brickspace and the American Association of University Womenpresent STEM Day for Girls! Girls in grades 2-6 are invited to participate in two workshops, enjoy lunch and team bonding activities. Join us, Saturday, April 25, for fun projects involving science, technology, engineering and math. The cost is $10. To reserve a spot call Fary Koh @ (707) 319-5489.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, The Parent Project, Loving Solutions class might be for you! This 6-week course, beginning April 22, is being offered through BUSD. It is taught by Wendy Smith, principal of Mary Farmar Elementary School and certified Parent Project Facilitator. The cost of the course is $25 per family and includes a book. Teacher Appreciation Week: 5/4/15- 5/8/15


Dear Matthew Turner Families~


Don't' forget--- a VERY important week is coming up the first week of May. It is a week to recognize our AMAZING teachers and thank them for all they do. We will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week the first week in May in several ways....but want to be sure that the students have opportunities to do so as well. Here are several suggestions that I hope you participate in:


Please have your child write a note or letter for his or her teacher. We will have a special mailbox in the office where these can be dropped off until Thursday (5/7/15) afternoon. They will be delivered to your child's teacher on Friday (5/8/15)! Please remember not only your child's classroom teacher, but all the teachers and staff on our campus that help students all day long (yard duty, aides, library, support services, office, custodians, etc.)


Monday 5/4: "Teachers Have Heart"--Have your child make a paper heart for your teacher! They can write a word in the heart that tells one way his/her teachers’ show they care (i.e. kind, helpful, etc.)


Tuesday 5/5: Flowers for the Teacher--Have your child bring a special flower from your yard for his/her teacher. One flower from each person will make a beautiful bouquet in the classroom!


Wednesday 5/6: Draw a picture day--Encourage your child to bring in a special picture made just for his/her teacher.


Thursday 5/7:Do Extra Kind Things Day--Talk to your children about doing extra special things all day for his/her teacher. This might be giving a compliment, holding a door, running an errand, being an extra good listener, straightening the bookshelf, etc. (Please remember that any special note to be delivered on Friday needs to be dropped off today in the office.)


Friday 5/8: Note Delivery Day: Today we will deliver all the notes to the teachers that were collected all week in the office mailbox.


We love our teachers. They work so hard on behalf of all our students here. Thank you for helping me show them ALL WEEK LONG how much we appreciate all they do!

Site Council Openings:

Site Council Openings: We have several openings on our School Site Council for next year (2015-2016). The School Site Council  meets monthly and helps us write our School's Single Plan for Student Achievement and our Site Safety Plan. The Matthew Turner Site Council also creates and implements a Parent Survey. The Site Council is very active in understanding the educational practices and programs at our site. School Site Councils were established because of Education Code 64001. They help schools monitor programs and analyze data to be sure we are doing the best we can do to meet the needs of all students. 

Please consider submitting your name to join our Site Council. Please know that Site Council terms are typically two or three years in length. You can email me at lbeatson@beniciaunified.org by Friday, May1st, with your name, contact information and one or two sentences about yourself. Voting will occur by paper ballot on Open House, May 15th  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Traffic & Pedestrian Safety

Dear Parents,

I am writing to ask for your immediate attention to a concern regarding traffic and pedestrian safety around campus that has been brought to my attention. It appears that cars are pulling into the crosswalk on Rose Drive at the staff lot exit and even into the staff lot through the exit on Rose Drive during morning drop off hours. Students who walk down Rose toward school and need to cross at the crosswalk have encountered cars either pulling into the crosswalk there or into the lot(through the exit), causing a safety issue. 

I highly encourage walking to school, but we need to work together as a community to ensure that students can walk safely on sidewalks and across cross walks. Please be mindful as you drive around campus, adhere to the marked driving/parking/entrance/exit signs and do not pull into the staff lot unless you are a daycare bus or have a placard given to you by our office for a special circumstance. If you fit this designation, you may pull into the staff lot rfom Dempsy Drive for drop off only--no parking. The side gate will be open at 8:20 for students dropped by daycare buses/placard cars only. 

All other cars must use the front of school drop off loop. No exceptions. All students (except those mentioned in the above paragraph) who walk to school from all points, must come up the sidewalk on Dempsy Drive and enter through the front gates. We realize this is a bit longer for those coming from the West side of school, but it is the protocol that we have set and ask that you adhere to this. The reason we have this protocol is multi-facted:

  • It is a clear, single message about where students enter the campus 
  • It allows for one single point entrance to school
  • It is meant to deter students from cutting through the staff parking lot
  • There is supervision in the front of the school

We have asked Benicia Police to help us with traffic safety when they are available. We need to work together to ensure the safety of all of our students. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.

We will be enrolling for Transitional K, Kindergarten


 NEW Students entering grades 1 through 5,

beginning on Monday, February 2, 2015 by appointment only.

If you have a child who will be age five (5) by September 1st, you may enroll them for 2015-2016 Kindergarten.

Transitional K is for children who will be age five (5) on September 2nd through December 2nd.

please contact our office ASAP at 747-8390 to schedule an enrollment appointment.


Please be sure to bring ALL of the required documents to the enrollment appointment. 

Missing or incorrect documentation will result in your appointment being rescheduled.
