Last spring the district began comprehensive facilities needs assessment of all district schools. The assessment included input from stakeholders at each of our seven school sites. It also included site walk-throughs with representatives from the Benicia Police Department to identify security concerns. This fall the governing board approved a Facility 5-Year Assessment Report that included Deferred Maintenance, Capital Improvements and New Construction. In February the governing board approved a resolution calling for an election to authorize the issuance of school bonds to be held on June 3, 2014.

There is a lot of change happening in education today. We have begun shifting to our new standards, the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) which have been adopted by 48 states. We also will have a new statewide assessment beginning next year (2014-2015). More than half the states in the nation will be using this assessment system as one measure of student progress. Here is a presentation done for our Turner Parent Night on 11/13/13. Look for more information in the future!
